HighStep Lift Takes First Test Runs
The new HighStep Lift, the world’s first portable lift, continues to take shape. Having been presented to the global public for the first time at Husum WindEnergy 2010, the lift is now taking its first test runs.
The 4 motors quietly purr and the gear gently moves along the rail to the height. The first impression is not disappointing, with the lift moving rapidly at more than half a metre per second. As such, great heights can be negotiated quickly – e.g. a 60 m pylon within only 2 minutes.
During the development of the lift, there was a constant emphasis on a tried and tested principle from aircraft construction to improve operating safety: redundancy. In addition to the 4 motors, the lift has three control boards, the sensors that are relevant for safety and other elements, all of which are located within a confined space. As such, the ratio of space to redundant system construction also presented a challenge for the engineers. In order to make the gear portable by one person, it must be compact and nonetheless incorporate all of the safety equipment.
The development of the lift is progressing rapidly. HighStep Systems AG is expecting CE certification to be received this year.
