HighStep Systems on the Qingshuihe Bridge, Chengdu, China

Home » HighStep Systems on the Qingshuihe Bridge, Chengdu, China

With a height of over 180 meters and a span of more than 1.700 meters, the Qingshuihe Bridge in Sichuan Province, China, is one of the most impressive bridge structures in the world. As a vital link in a high-frequency transportation network, it places extreme demands on maintenance and inspection.
In order to ensure the safety and efficiency of these works in the long term, the operating consortium decided to use the modular climbing system from HighStep Systems.

Challenge

The exceptional height of the Qingshuihe Bridge and challenging weather conditions such as strong winds and high humidity required a flexible yet highly safe solution for the vertical access to the bridge piers and inspection areas.
Classic access systems such as conventional ladders or lifting platforms quickly reached their limits due to the structural height, limited space and safety requirements.

Solution: HighStep Systems im einsatz

HighStep Systems implemented a customized climbing system specifically designed for high altitudes and extreme environments.
Thanks to its modular design, the system could be precisely adapted to the existing structural conditions of the bridge.
The most important features included:

  • A permanently installed Guide rail system along the access points,
  • Electrically operated ascent devices (HighStep Lift) with redundant safety systems,
  • Emergency descent devices for maximum work safety in the event of power failures,
  • Low-maintenance components specifically designed for permanent outdoor use.

Thanks to the integrated personal protective equipment and automated safety interlocks, the inspection and maintenance teams were able to work significantly faster and more safely.

Results and added value

The use of the HighStep system enabled a significant increase in maintenance efficiency:

  • Time savings of up to 40% in inspection routines,
  • Significant reduction in the risk of accidents compared to conventional climbing methods,
  • Minimal downtime of the bridge during maintenance work.

In addition, operators appreciated the durable design of the system, which is designed for a long service life with minimal maintenance.

"The HighStep system exceeded our expectations—it combines maximum safety with impressive efficiency. A perfect solution for a structure of this size."
– Project Manager Qingshuihe Bridge, 2025

With the use of the HighStep Systems On the Qingshuihe Bridge, a new standard for safety and efficiency in the maintenance of highly complex infrastructure projects was set.
HighStep Systems once again proves its competence as a reliable partner for demanding applications worldwide.
